As summer is nearing the end, we are seeing the United States face new financial challenges resulting in accelerated increase gold and silver prices. In the last 5 weeks silver is up nearly 24% while gold is up 16%.
We’ve been able to operate without silver scrap limits for the last two months. The amount of scrap silver liquidations in the last week requires us (and others) to adjust to the market conditions. Starting Monday, August 24th JHCB will limit silver purchases to 200 toz of scrap silver per week per customer. Some categories will remain unlimited. Limits are 200 gross toz in aggregate (NOT 200 t/oz per category). The table below outlines the different silver categories and their status.
